Kinesiology taping has been around for nearly 40 plus years. It was first developed in the 1970’s by Dr. Kenso Kase as a new approach to facilitate the body’s natural healing process. It involves placing kinesiology tape in specific directions and proper amounts of tension applied. Anyone can purchase kinesiology tape but it is recommended that a certified kinesiology taping professional be the one to apply it because of their special training and knowledge of the musculoskeletal system.
How does kinesiology tape work?
Kinesiology taping lifts the skin allowing for a decompression of the underlying blood vessels, lymph vessels and muscles. This encourages lymph drainage and reduces compression on the pain receptors.
