Top 5 Foods That Cause Inflammation

December 27, 2018 By Bryan Kreitlow

Pain affects more people than you might expect.

Chronic or severe pain affects nearly one third of Americans.  Chronic pain is pain that is lasting longer than three months.  With so many pain treatments out there, you would expect that these numbers would be in decline.  However, the reality is that they are on the rise.

So, with all the pain medications, over the counter pills, injections and other treatments out there for pain, something must be missing.  One of the biggest factors to address when it comes to pain is nutrition.

Often physicians will tell you to lose weight and eat better, but a discussion about specific types of food is rarely mentioned.  There are variety of foods that actually increase inflammation in the body.  It may surprise you how the intake of certain foods will cause more inflammation and pain.  Eliminating these foods or at least moderating your intake may be the solution to treating your pain. Why Men need Yoga

Yoga

Men and Yoga

With the launch of our yoga program “Optimize Yoga” we wanted to take some time to dispel some of the misconceptions men have about yoga.  Many think yoga is a lighter form of fitness that women mostly partake in.  There is a recent study from Yoga Journal showing that men now make up 28% of the people taking classes.  Below we will explain the benefits and how it can help your overall health and fitness as well as enhance your current workout or sport.

  Strengthening

Bodybuilding or weightlifting tends to work at building muscles of specific body parts like chest, biceps, shoulders and quads. Yoga on the other hand builds muscles evenly over the whole body while increasing range of motion and flexibility.  Normal workouts might ignore some muscle groups, specifically the stabilizers, while yoga is effective for overall muscle strengthening. Protect your hands during the holidays

November 14, 2017 By Douglas Fischer

As the holidays are fast approaching many of us will be preparing turkey for dinner.  Don’t forget safety.  Over 80% of Americans eat turkey on Thanksgiving and many also prepare it for the Christmas meal as well.  Cuts from carving turkey are one of the top five most common injuries on Thanksgiving.

Do’s and Don’ts when carving:

  • Never cut toward yourself. One slip can cause a horrific injury.
  • Place free hand on the opposite side you are carving toward.
  • Don’t place your hand underneath the blade to catch the slice of meat.
  • Keep all cutting knives sharp. A sharp knife requires less force to cut.
